ACHOF Breaking News Update – Here are the winners of the 2023 Best Art Vinyl Awards competition

Special ACHOF Breaking News Update – January 11th, 2024, by Mike Goldstein

After perusing this year’s list of nominees and placing our votes, the producers of the annual Best Art Vinyl Awards have tabulated the votes, and the winners/top vote-getters are:

1st Place – Artist (and educator) Michelle Henning for British alt-rocker PJ Harvey’s album I Inside the Old year Dying

2nd Place – LA-based photographer and film director Melodie McDaniel for her image created for pop gospel trio Gabriels’ album Angels and Queens: Part 2

3rd Place – Big Active Design’s Mat Maitland for his AI-enhanced lenticular image used on the cover of Sub Focus’ album Evolve

In the press release for this year’s announcement, Best Art Vinyl founder Andrew Heeps added these comments about the competition, “We have three very different designs, all of which deserve greater artistic scrutiny this year. Each of these worthy winners combine levels of artistic complexity and techniques to bring the music inside their beautiful packages to life.”

You can look over all of the nominated designs and take a closer look at the winning images on the Best Art Vinyl site – https://artvinyl.com/award-year/2023/

I’m hoping to elicit some feedback from this year’s winners and will present that to you as it becomes available. In the meantime, let’s give all of the nominees and winners a round of applause for jobs well done and for continuing to prove that album art – and the people that make it – can still inspire us with its creativity and its beauty. Cheers!
